The future of spinning reels from Daiwa is AIRDRIVE DESIGN. By reducing the weight of the rotor, spool and bail assembly, easier rotation is achieved. This effortless rotation allows the angler to feel the true joy of unique function.

The 22 EXIST has been created to be the new benchmark. AIRDRIVE DESIGN is the pinnacle for all to follow.

To begin the development of AIRDRIVE DESIGN, DAIWA first separated the spinning reel into two key components. The first was the "tail unit," which consists of the body and key internal components such as the drive wheel. By introducing MQ technology along with the robust Digigear, which is now becoming the standard of DAIWA's spinning reels, it added strength and durability to the rear unit.

After developing the rear unit, DAIWA set out to redesign the key components of what it calls the "front unit." By redesigning the rotor, spool and bail assembly, DAIWA has managed to reduce the weight of the front unit in 2022. AIRDRIVE DESIGN is the result of this new way of thinking. DAIWA has developed an innovative masterpiece that gives the angler total control: reduced weight, smooth rotation and high responsiveness. All of these combined elements come together to create AIRDRIVE DESIGN.

AIRDRIVE DESIGN can be divided into 4 key technologies.

The new AIRDRIVE ROTOR and the newly developed AIRDRIVE BAIL together reduce the weight at the top end of the roll. Reduced weight provides smooth and consistent rotation with faster start-up and lower inertia. Unnecessary weight was reduced to develop the new AIRDRIVE SPOOL, which perfectly matches the AIRDRIVE ROTOR & AIRDRIVE BAIL to complete the redesigned front unit.

Unlike its own internal reel structure, DAIWA has developed a low contact structure between the main shaft and the pinion called AIRDRIVE SHAFT. By using this method, friction is reduced and smoothness is improved. The combination of these new technologies makes the reel extremely lightweight and allows the angler to experience smooth rotation with less inertia and better control over line and rod action.
